Tongrentang has never hesitated in perfecting its high-tech system to reach the end of strengthening its competitiveness. In 1999, for example, the company established a Development Committee consisting of Wang Yongyan, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, four academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and noted specialists. Prof. Zhou Haijun, a researcher from National Institute for the control of pharmaceutical and Biological products, works as the director. In 2002, it established Tongrentang Specialists Committee. These committees have proposed constructive opinions for the development of Tongrentang, the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine, regeneration of traditional products, evaluated major projects concerning production, marketing and scientific researches in traditional Chinese medicine, and provided intelligent support for the company's development and scientific research. The R&D system of Tongrentang is in the control of the chief engineers of the Group Company, and the listed companies, and the Department of Science-Technology Assurance. There are two institutes specializing in R&D. They have joined hands with the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the establishment of the National Engineering Research Center for the Development of New Chinese Medicine, which has been permitted by the authorities. Moreover, Tongrentang has established Tongrentang Research Institute and Tongrentang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital jointly with the scientific research organizations in Beijing. In October 2003, Tongrentang jointly established Beijing Zhongyan Tongrentang Traditional Chinese Medicine Research and Development Co., Ltd., with the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The newly established company gathers excellent talent, advantageous resources, the best operation system and the most sophisticated technology.
